joanne.jpg (13380 bytes)Summer screams warm days filled with plenty of hot dog eating and swimming. Homework and school is a distant memory until the fall. But, there’s one little trip you probably dread to make, especially dread to try on. I think you know what I’m talking about: it’s bathing suit shopping.

Bathing suit shopping
is notoriously agonizing.
First, the options are overwhelming. Then once you choose between a one-piece, two-piece, or a "tankini," it’s off to the dressing rooms. You’re not even safe at the register, since good quality bathing suits can leave a smoldering hole in your wallet. And worst of all, a hastily chosen bathing suit can haunt you for the rest of the summer.

summer.jpg (3674 bytes)If you loathe swim suit shopping, join the club. It’s not too late, though! So don’t cry in your smoothie just yet! You can still make bathing suit shopping as easy as, well, a day at the beach. Here are some easy breezy shopping tips:

One
Don't Feel Overwhelmed

It’s easy to feel hopeless when you’re lost in a sea of bathing suits. Before you even set foot in the store, think about what you want: "do I want a bikini or a one-piece?" then, "Will a bikini be comfortable?" Once you’ve narrowed down your options, go straight to the bathing suit section of your choice. Now the choice is a lot simpler!

Two
Always try on the bathing suit.

Bathing suits may look totally different on the hanger than on your body. So always try on your selection: Turn around, look at yourself from all angles in the mirror, and assess how it fits.

If you’re not comfortable, put it back without a second thought. There are always more bathing suits to try on. Also, keep your ears open for opinions from your mom, sister, or friend. They might me able to give you helpful suggestions you haven’t even thought of yet.
(This is good advice you’ll want to know straight from mom: you should always keep your underwear on when you’re trying on suits.)

Three
Mix and match different sizes in tops and bottoms

Today, stores sell separate sizes in bikini tops and bottoms. Now you can buy bigger sizes on the bottom and smaller ones for the top, or vice versa. This will be much more comfortable.

Four
Shop later for better prices

Prices on bathing suits drop dramatically just before July 4. You’ll want to check out the slashed prices, which can range from 30% to even 50%! If you’ve been saving for a certain bathing suit, the time to buy later.

Five
Confining bathing suits belong on the rack.

Who wants to wear a bathing suit that’s uncomfortable? You need to think about the purchase you’re about to make. You’ll probably have your bathing suit for the rest of the summer. So take your time. You’ll have to go back and do it all over again in the long run. Only buy what you’ll feel comfortable wearing.

To keep your new bathing suit in prime condition and shape: After wearing, soak in cold water and hang dry (never put in dryer, it’s not good for the material.) Three wears later, use a little gentle soap on it. This will keep your suit’s shape and will prevent fading.

So dive into summer, wearing the perfect bathing suit.
You’ll look and feel confident as you’re catching a wave at the beach or having a beverage on a lounge, poolside. Summer’s a blast, and picking the right bathing suit will only make it better!
