Some say that laughter is the best medicine....
and we have some funny
tidbits that you will scattered throughout hotflash donated by Leigh Anne Jasheway. We also have these witty remarks
combined with essays, interviews and more to help you laugh and learn too.
- I don't have hot flashes.
I have flashes of uncool.
- I've given up on losing weight.
I'm going to lose depth instead.
If I can't be thin, at least I can be shallow.
- I like having an overactive bladder.
At least part of me is getting some exercise.
- Middle age: too old for recreational sex,
too young for a recreational vehicle.
- Bras are outrageously expensive these days.
For $60 a bra ought to make cappuccino and have a built-in satellite dish.
- I may be over 40, but my breasts are still 20-something.
Which is why they're always making stupid decisions.
Like last week when they wanted to go to a Ricky Martin concert.
- You should change gynecologists if yours insists on wearing
a paper gown too.
- Why is it I can't read the label on my anti-aging cream
unless I put it in another room?
- The other day my computer said, "You have been idle for
a long time." Just what I need: a computer that nags me to get more exercise.
- I'm perimenopausal.
That's from the Greek, "peri" meaning "partly" and
"menopausal" meaning "homicidal."
- Now that I'm older, I don't have to work so hard to get in
shape for swimsuit season.
I just up my Prozac.
- My doctor told me I have presbyopia.
I said "That's impossible, I'm Lutheran."
- Middle age is when you finally discover that it's the LAW of
gravity, not the GUIDELINES of gravity.
- 20% of women say their sex life is better after menopause.
Of course that could just be the memory loss.
I'm not saying they forget how good sex used to be;
I'm saying they forget where they live and end up having sex with the neighbors.
- Is it hot in here
or am I going to have to slap someone?

I'm Not Getting
Older;
I'm Getting Better at Denial
by Leigh Anne Jasheway, Deborah Kaye

Leigh Anne Jasheway, a stand-up comedian and humor author, reminds us that middle
age has its hysterical moments in her funny little book, "I'm Not Getting Older (I'm
Getting Better at Denial). Jasheway's humor hits the spot (or, at least where the spot
used to be.) Some examples: Did you know that 20% of women say their sex life is better
after menopause? Of course, that could be due to memory loss.... So what if your breasts
have lost some elasticity. It's not as if you were going to shoot them across the room.
Were you? ... If you decide to get that procedure done in which a doctor injects fat from
your thighs into your lips, ask yourself this first: "If I go through with this, will
I always wonder if my pants make my lips look fat?"

"Sitting around the table telling stories is not just a way of passing
time," writes Rachel Naomi Remen in her introduction to Kitchen Table Wisdom.
"It is the way wisdom gets passed along. The stuff that helps us live a life worth
remembering." Remen, a physician, therapist, professor of medicine, and long-term
survivor of chronic illness, is also a down-home storyteller. Reading this collection of
real-life parables feels like a late-night kitchen session with a best friend, munching on
leftovers while listening to the good-as-gossip stories of everyday heroes and archetype
villains. Every story guides us like a life compass, showing us what's good and lasting
about ourselves as well as humanity.
