This week's Life's Little Lessons sends us the message of
appreciation.
Too often it takes a crisis for us to appreciate what we have. Debbie has generously
shown and given us reason to appreciate our lives through her story .
We wish all the best for Debbie and her brave mother.
From Deb
My Mom has breast cancer which has spread throughout her body including her spine
and her bones. She didn't realize how bad it was until one day she couldn't walk.
She was hospitalized and had surgery to remove the tumors that were pressing on her
spine, removed 3 vertebrae's, etc. She still has a long way to go with the numerous
amount of tumors still collecting in her spine not to mention learning how to walk again.
You never realize how lucky you have it until something like this happens. You don't think
of walking as a luxury until you cannot walk anymore. A simple thing like getting up
to turn off a light becomes a chore.
I, myself, have learned through my Mom to value life and the simple things in it a lot
more. There are so many people who have it worse than you or I. We need to focus
more on what we have and appreciate it, versus what we want.
Just my two cents. Debbie

what we are busy "wanting"
From: Laura
Ellis
First of all, I would like to send blessings to Debbie and her mother. I cannot imagine
what either of them is going through. And I do agree that most of us should stop and smell
the roses in our own yard instead of longing for the ones across the street. But I would
like to make the point that sometimes we need to look at what we are busy
"wanting". Some of the "wants" may be diversions so that we don't have
to face some of the inner stuff we'd rather avoid; deep seated pain and anger and such.
But some of those "wants" can also be messages designed to point us in the
direction of greater fulfullment and usefullness. I think our biggest task is to learn to
differentiate between the frivolous desires for immediate gratification which lead us to
envy and chronic dissatisfaction; and the desires which point us in the direction of who
we were meant to be. > I hope this doesn't sound too vague. I'm working on this stuff
too, and learning as I travel my path.
Hope you all find peace and contentment.
Laura

From: Philip Wagoner - Good for everyone - a must read, and the tape

and found such insight in the pages. As a minister, I found sermon illustrations, and
examples that will last me for a long, long time. This is a must read, as are all of the
Chicken Soup books - It will bring health to your soul.
