My husband gets really so uncomfortably hot at night that he cannot sleep, hotter than I ever got.....and longer lasting( hour) is there anything herbal for men or anything at all????

There are a number of herbal things a man can take to help with Male Menopause. While a male's menopause is not as hormone altering as the female's, it can call for similar herbs to facilitate rebalance during these changes in life.

A combination of herbs for a man experiencing male menopause will do well to include:

  • Wild Yam for hormone building assistance
  • Black cohosh for a relaxant and normalizer
  • Damiana as a prostate tonic, anti-depressant and nutrient for sluggish sexual organs
  • St. John's Wort and Oat for nerve tonics to help deal with any depression and other stress due to the changes
  • Saw Palmetto for a reproductive system nutrient.

All will help with hot flashes. Also eating more soy products will help.


When does Male Menopause Occur?

Hi, I am wondering what the age of Male Menopause is? I know  the average agefor Women and Menopause is 51 (although I've been doing the Peri thing since I was 40). Is there a comparative age for men?

On average the age range for men going through Male Menopause is wider than for females and the symptoms often come on more gradually.  Men generally go through "the change" between 40 and 55, though some men can start as early as 35 or as late as 65.  Since there isn't a final marker like there is in women, it is often difficult to determine when men have completed this passage.  We are still learning more about this.  At our international conference on Male Menopause/Female Menopause in October, experts will be sharing their latest findings on these issues.

So do men really go through menopause? If you think of menopause as hot flashes and a sudden change in fertility, no. But if you regard menopause as physical and emotional changes triggered by significant changes in hormone levels, then yes, men go through it. In Male Menopause veteran psychotherapist and men's-movement leader Jed Diamond looks at the observable and documentable changes associated with male midlife--weight gain, less physical endurance, longer recovery from injuries, reduced interest in sex, feelings of irritability and depression--and concludes that this is indeed a passage similar to what middle-aged women go through.
