 Eva:
Id like to welcome Audrey Pavia, writer of Careers with Dogs. She has been the
editor of Horse Illustrated magazine, managing editor of Dog Fancy magazine,
Senior editor of the American Kennel Club Gazette, and dozens of various articles
on animals. We are proud to have her here with us
today.
Lets get right to it:
Eva:
Who drew the beautiful sketches at the beginning of each chapter?
 Audrey:
These were done by an animal artist named Pam Tanzey. She's an accomplished
illustrator who has done the art work for a large number of pet books. In addition to
drawing dogs, she also does cats and horses.
Eva:
Personally, what do you think is the best dog related career?
Audrey:
Well, I'm pretty fond of the one I've chosen (freelance animal writer), although
my childhood dream was to be a veterinarian.
I admire vets and their ability to understand what is wrong
with a patient who can't even talk.
Eva:
You can't possible have every career in this book. How do you know about the ins and outs
of every job?
Audrey:
I did a lot of research for this book. I spoke to people in various careers and
read a lot of books and articles about each job. Plus, in my career as a freelance animal
writer, I have met many people who hold these particular careers. Talking to them over the
years has helped me understand what these jobs are all about.
Eva:
For fun, what kinds of dogs do you have?
What are their names?
I happen to be dogless right now, but some of the dogs I've
had in the past include a white German Shepherd named Jackie, a Collie-mix named Star, and
a Shiba Inu named Kodi. My parents' Pomeranian, Minette, spends a lot of time with me too.

The Guinea Pig:
An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet (Owner's Guide
to a Happy, Healthy Pet)
by Audrey Pavia

A book devoted to the joys of pet guinea pigs. Proves guinea pigs are playful and
fun--they don't just sit there. A joy to read--especially for those of us who remember
Audrey when she was the editor of Horse Illustrated. Engaging, informative, helpful text
written by a true lover of animals. The illustrations are also lavish, helpful, at times
hysterical and heavy on cute. Also has a big listing of books, clubs and a tiny website
listing--still, very accurate |
