Worry begets worry. I don't know if you are like me
but I can't just worry about ONE thing.
When I jump on the "worry wagon" I fill it up.
The two words that
always start me worrying are "what if"! |
 |
The two words that always start me worrying are "what
if"! What if this happens, what if it doesn't happen? And before I know it I'm scared
to death or life AGAIN and wonder if I can make it. So we add another phase to worry-fear!
The Bible says that "fear bringeth torment". And mental torment can be
devastating to your life.
What are some of your worst fears?
Write them down. Look over them carefully, then tear the paper up and throw it in
the garbage. Because that is all worry deserves. The garbage! And it's garbage you don't
need to be carrying around day and night.
Most fears, I think, center around family, money, job
security, and health issues. It's so easy to worry about our children as Moms and Dads
that love our kids more than we love our own lives. I too worry about my children and now
grandchildren. You NEVER cease being a mom or dad. It's a lifelong process. I have learned
a few secrets. First of all I know I did the best I knew how to do for my kids. I raised
them to love God, to honor and respect those in authority, I taught them self- esteem by
constantly letting them know what special people they were and how much potential they
had. When they disobeyed I corrected them, when they obeyed I praised them. Most of all I
loved them with all my heart and I know they felt and still do feel that unconditional
love. Now they are grown, and have a life of their own that does not always include Mom
and Dad and our advice is not always wanted. That is when I rely on what I taught them and
trust God that they will make right decisions. I'm always there to listen via phone or
whatever but NEVER give advice unless asked specifically. When I get up in the morning my
first prayer is that God will give His angels charge over my children and my
grandchildren. I trust god with them! I really do! He can be with them in places I can't
be. Then I allow my mind to relax knowing they are safe in His capable loving hands. And
my worry is gone!
Money is a big worry to most of us.
"What if" it's not there anymore.PANIC! Well, I give 10 percent of
every penny I earn back to God. The bible says, Give and it shall be given unto you,
pressed down, shaken together and running over. I have been very LOW on money but never
have I been without what I need to live. The other day my daughter was in a panic. She had
to pay a bill for $50.00 and $50.00 was all the money she had for the week. She paid the
bill, went to get her mail that day and in the mail was a check for $50.00. She pays
tithes also and God did not fail her. It works for anyone. So that is another worry you
can put to rest!
Job security is another worry.
I always feel that if you lose one job God will give you a better job and take
care of you in between jobs! I have a good friend that was fired after years on the same
job. No apparent reason. He has started his own little company, something he has always
wanted to do. He is a painter and a wallpaper expert. His business is starting slowly but
he is making it! However, if you don't want to start your own business, everyday I see
HELP WANTED ads. Don't be embarrassed or ashamed to take something "less than"
until something better comes along. The Bible once again says, "Whatsoever your hand
findeth to do, do it with all your heart." Anything we do with all our heart will be
successful.
Then there are HEALTH issues.
I have had colon cancer. I will be 5 years free of cancer march 6th of next year.
I never dreamed I could get cancer. That was something other people got! The day I heard
the news I was NOT AFRAID! Cancer is NOT an automatic death sentence, nor are other
diseases we fear. I believe that God is in charge of my life and anything that happens to
me He will show me how to live through it. Bad things happen and will happen to GOOD
people.
There are some things we have no control over.
So we must accept them as part of who we are and deal with them realistically.
Not in fear! Deal with them one day at a time! Do what you have to do today and tomorrow
will take care of itself. I had surgery, started to take good vitamins and other
supplements, I researched colon cancer by buying books and reading them- I enjoy life now
and never worry about cancer. In fact, I keep forgetting I even had cancer until I am
reminded of it by others. DO NOT FEAR ILLNESS! Keep a good attitude! Keep a POSITIVE
attitude! Look at people you admire who have suffered a health problem. I see Christopher
Reeves of Superman fame still carrying on life as usual even though he is in a wheel chair
totally paralyzed. If he can make it so can I! Don't feel sorry for yourself! It's life!
It can happen to ANYONE! It's not the circumstances in life that defeats us, it's how we
handle the circumstances!
REMEMBER:
WORRY IS LIKE A ROCKING CHAIR, IT PASSES THE TIME BUT DOESN'T ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING!
So learn to live your life to the fullest and stay away
from that rocking chair called worry!
Don't let a little 5-letter word destroy your peace and
your happiness or
your life!
